An Afghan Intelligence – National Directorate of Security (NDS) officer was martyred following an explosion in eastern Kunar province of Afghanistan.
According to local government officials, the incident took place in Watapur district following an improvised explosive device (IED) attack.
Provincial police chief, Gen. Abdul Habib Syed Khel said the intelligence officer was on his way to the mosque when an remote-controlled improvised explosive device (IED) was detonated.
Gen. Syed Khel further added that a close relative of the intelligence officer was also injured following the blast.
No group including the Taliban militants has so far claimed responsibility behind the incident.
Kunar is among the volatile provinces in eastern Afghanistan where anti-government armed militant groups are actively operating and frequently carry out insurgency activities.
Taliban militants and insurgents from the other militant groups frequently use improvised explosive device (IED) as the weapon of their choice to target Afghan and coalition security forces.
